Daddy's Girl

It wasn't until later in life that I heard this story. But boy, that Daddy sure new what he was doing.

My Daddy always sent his girls roses on Valentine's Day, even when we were very young. It was always a treat at school to receive roses, but I never knew why he did that, except that he was a great Daddy. But, Daddy sent us roses so that when we got a boyfriend, and he sent us flowers we wouldn't think it was anything special because our Dad always did that for us. Well, it's kind of ironic that the 1st boy that sent me flowers, married me 7 years later.

"I don't need your flowers, my Daddy sends me them."

And that is why I am a Daddy's Girl. Oh yeah, I love you too Mama!

My Lovely Assistant Baby Lisa

My Lovely Assistant Baby Lisa is actually my sister D. Her Baby Lisa fame is from Dog the Bounty Hunter; we used to just call her Baby, but Baby Lisa is so much more fun to say!

Baby Lisa and I attempted to make a DIY (Not DUI as Baby Lisa kept referring to it as) tutorial of making wedding pomanders for Flower Girls to carry.

Materials for one pomander: 3 bunches of silk white roses, one foam ball*, 6 push pins, ribbon and wire cutters.
1. Start by cutting a piece of ribbon 12-18 inches.
2. Overlap the ends of the ribbon and push the push-pins through the ribbon into the foam. We didn't, but I would suggest hot-gluing the ribbon first, and then sticking pins in the foam ball.
3. Secure with enough pins so that the handle is attached.
4. Using the wire cutters, cut the blooms off of the stem, leaving about 2 inches of stem.

5. Stick the stem into the foam ball near the ribbon and work around the top circumference working your way to the uh,, equator, and down to the uh, South Pole of the foam ball.
6. Stagger the flowers so that the petals just kiss the next bloom and you cannot see the green foam beneath.

7. Cover the whole ball with blooms!

This was a fun DIY project too! We figured out that the foam balls we bought were too big, so Baby Lisa and I ran errands today and bought a pair of smaller foam balls to re-do the pomanders so that the doll babies will be able to actually carry the pomanders down the aisle!

Let Them Eat Cake

Yes! Let them! And the bride!

Last summer My Guy and I met with The Cake Lady and had a great excuse to stuff our faces with cake and buttercream frosting. We decided to go with this baker and later found out that her brother-in-law and family were neighbors with my parents many years ago!

I love how it will continue the garden theme into reception!


We will need to arrange the flowers ourselves but I think that we'll be able to handle it!

I found this DIY tutorial about constructing a bouquet of garden roses that looks, well, garden-y. It uses spray roses but I am hoping to recreate this look with average size roses.

Fantastic Fifty Flower Finds!

Busy weekend at the 'rents house!
One of my favorite tasks that we tackled this weekend was ordering flowers! We* will be doing our own flower arrangements from bouquets and bouts, to center pieces and decorations, and decorating the cake. I was nervous about taking on this challenge, but from early in the planning process I knew I wanted to "try" to arrange the flowers.

*We: myself, Mommy, Haley Beth, Darb, Sonita Maria and anyone else would would like to try out their green thumb! Maybe a few of those Awesome Aunts? Please, anyone?

After the New Year, Sonita Maria came down to watch Martha Stewart Weddings and to practice making bouquets and stayed for dinner date night to meet Haley Beth's BF CoCo. Anyway, back to flowers! My mama and I had bought a couple dozen roses from Wal-Mart to practice working with the flowers. So after many Martha DIY videos we started wiring flowers and trying to put together bouquets! It went pretty smooth once we figured out an assembly line: Darbey strip the stems of leaves, Soni cut wire and cut stems, and I would wire the blooms. Between Soni and I, we were able to group the flowers to look like a full bouquet. If you want my opinion, I think it turned out, well, fantastic!

We used coral roses and sprigs of baby's breath, which made it a bit more "garden-y".

So today we ordered bulk flowers online from Fifty Flowers.


Polo White roses for my bouquet,


Marlyse Salmon roses for bridesmaids,


Creamy blush garden roses for cake,

and salmon peach hydrangea for decor.

I can't wait to enjoy the fresh aroma of these on the big day!
